Multiple people were shot inside Chelsea's Juliet Supper Club early this morning, less than two months after a man was fatally stabbed after leaving the club. A 43-year-old man who was shot in the torso and back was declared dead on arrival at Bellevue this morning a little after 2:30 a.m.. According to sources, "some current NBA and NFL players were inside the crowded club, but they were not involved in the shooting."
It is unclear what started the incident at the celeb-happy club, but police say that officers responded to a call of shots fired there shortly before 2:30 a.m. Once they arrived they found the 43-year-old man and a 28-year-old man who had been shot in the arm, back and rear, and quickly took them to Bellevue. According to DNAinfo, "Both men had numerous prior convictions for charges including robberies, criminal possession of a weapon, and drug sales, according to cops."
Meanwhile they weren't the only ones shot, they just had the worst of it. A woman who was tweeting through the whole ordeal (on an account since shut down) says that five people were hit and posted a graphic photo, currently still online, of her leg after it was shot. InFlexWeTrust managed to save her account here. According to the FDNY a total of six patients were retrieved from the scene. The other victims, who were not in critical condition, were taken to Beth-Israel.
Juliet Supper Club says that is has "turned over all video surveillance and are doing all we can to aid the police with this matter." Further, it will be closed tonight and tomorrow and is considering "closing the doors to its popular Monday night." They also add: "Juliet Supper Club has always taken additional precautionary measures to ensure the safety of its patrons. Measures included male and female security guards responsible for searching patrons belongings, a mandatory coat check, and a strict dress code was implemented. Additionally the NYPD has undercover officers who are stationed outside covering the front of the venue."
And yet? "Never clubbing again," the woman who was shot in the leg tweeted early this morning.
So far no arrests have been made and the NYPD asks anyone with further information on the case to call Crime Busters at 1-800-577-TIPS. They say the shooter was dressed in a white leather jacket.
