A 33-year-old man was injured by an M train this morning after he allegedly tried to steal a 13-year-old boy's iPhone and then ran on the tracks, according to police.

The alleged mugger, who has not yet been identified, was onboard the Manhattan-bound train near the Northern Boulevard station in Woodside at around 8 a.m. this morning when he attempted to take the phone, according to police. Police say he also attempted to assault a good Samaritan who tried to intervene before getting off at the station and running down the tracks to the 65th Street station.

He was clipped by a train in the tunnel, though police say he suffered only minor injuries. He has been taken into custody, and charges are pending.

The incident caused extensive rush hour delays on the E,F, M & R trains, and contributed to overcrowding on the 7 train as a result.
