A pedestrian was killed by the driver of an MTA bus last night on 59th Street near Central Park. According to the NYPD, the woman—identified as 33-year-old Aileen Martinez—was struck at West 59th Street and 7th Avenue around 8:25 p.m. Police say the bus was headed east on West 59th Street and was turning onto 7th Avenue when the driver collided with Martinez.
NY1 reports that the victim was "pinned under one of the tires." Martinez was pronounced dead at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital. An MTA spokesman could not provide any further details about the cause of the accident, but less than two hours after the accident the NYPD informed the media that there was "no criminality suspected."
