Why let Donald Trump have all the birther fun? Speaking today before an adoring crowd in Commerce Township, Michigan, Mitt Romney cracked wise about those conspiracy theories that President Obama's birth certificate is forged to cover up the "fact" that he was actually born in Kenya and probably conceived during a ritualistic Muslim Brotherhood ceremony in the Dome of the Rock.

“Now I love being home in this place where Ann and I were raised, where both of us were born,” Romney declared, his wife standing proudly by his side. “Ann was born in Henry Ford Hospital. I was born in Harper Hospital. No one’s ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place that we were born and raised.” Here's video of the remarks, which were met with a wave of brainless applause:

Romney's camp quickly sought to dispel any notion that the birth certificate comment was a jab at Obama. "The governor has always said, and has repeatedly said, he believes the president was born here in the United States,” Kevin Madden, an adviser to Romney, told the Times. "He was only referencing that Michigan, where he is campaigning today, is the state where he himself was born and raised." Exactly, and the simple fact that, unlike some people, nobody's ever wondered if Mitt Romney's a real American or asked questions about his nationality. Just his tax records.
