Yuck. As mentioned earlier there is a heat advisory in effect for the city today. Hot and humid air will make for oppressive conditions outside. The muggy weather has been dragged up from the southeastern U.S. ahead of the cold front that brought tornadoes to Michigan yesterday.

This morning's low was 81 degrees, which is normal for today's high temperature. This afternoon's high will only be a degree or two warmer than yesterday's 91, so why a heat warning today? The dew point temperature is in the lower 70s rather than the mid 60s. The cooling power of air depends on the spread between the air temp. and the dew point. As the gap narrows our ability to cool by the evaporation of sweat greatly diminishes. Be careful out there!

The heat, humidity and approaching cold front add up to a good chance of showers and thunderstorms starting this afternoon and lasting overnight. Dry air will arrive before cool air once the front passes. Look for clearing skies tomorrow and a high in the upper 80s. The rest of the week is looking very sunny and mild.
