July got off to a noisy start this morning with a 4 a.m. thunderstorm that dropped more than a third of an inch of rain at both LaGuardia and Central Park in just a few minutes. Across the Hudson both Newark and Teterboro airports recorded nearly an inch of rain from the same storm. This morning's weather balloon plot showed a deep column of high humidity in the air. With that much humidity we can't rule out at least a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms. Today's high should reach the mid 80s, which is just above the normal July 1st maximum of 82 degrees.

A weak cold front is expected to pass south through the city this evening. As drier, more stable, air arrives behind the front the chance for showers will end and we'll have a very pleasant Thursday. Tomorrow's high should be in the lower 80s under a mix of sun and clouds.

The weather forecast for the July 4th weekend is pretty boring, and that's a good thing. Friday looks to have a mix of sun and clouds and a high near 80. Saturday's forecast is pretty much the same, so good conditions to watch the fireworks. Somewhat warmer weather arrives on Sunday when the high is expected to reach the sunny mid 80s.
