Police are searching for a 20-year-old model from Mexico who was last seen in Bushwick and and has now been missing for over a week.
Geraldine Mendez never returned to her apartment in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens after leaving it around 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 15th, the Daily News reports.
Mendez arrived in New York City in August to work in some fashion shows, her father told NBC 4 New York. According to the News, Mendez left her apartment to go for a walk in Prospect Park around 5 p.m. on October 15th. NBC 4 reports that Mendez was last seen hanging out with friends at a Bushwick apartment early Sunday morning and has not been heard from since.
"Geraldine is what I call a happy hippie," Kris Kemp, a friend of Mendez's told NBC 4. "She's creative like most of the people here, so she was just kind of hanging out with different people here."
Mendez's father, Hugo Mendez, flew in from Mexico City to file a missing person report on Friday night. "I don't think there could be a greater pain than knowing your daughter is in a city, alone, in a fragile situation," he told NBC.
An NYPD spokesperson told Gothamist there have not been any new developments and the investigation is ongoing. Mendez is She is described as being about 5'5" tall, weighing 110 lbs., with a thin build, brown eyes and black hair. She was last seen wearing red multi-colored pants with a black cardigan sweater. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
