The MTA's MetroCard vending machines were malfunctioning citywide this morning starting around 9 a.m., forcing commuters to pay cash and wait on long lines in some stations for the privilege of getting to work extra-late. The machines would accept neither credit cards nor debit cards for over an hour, but as of 10:10 a.m. an MTA spokesman told us the machines were "pretty much back." To be sure, the massive glitch was a big hassle for everyone involved, but fortunately when one technology fails, we can utilize another to ease the pain:
MTA machines at 169 + Bway aren't taking cash OR credit. Anyone have a spare token? Fml. I really have to look into that auto-renewal thing.

#MTA was only taking cash. Who carries $104 in cash? Bill Gates and a stripper on Sunday morning.

#mta No Metrocard machines taking card payments. No info. Belligerent booth lady at Ditmars. $104 monthly is on my prepaid commuter card.

Can I sue the MTA? Just for sucking? #mta #NYC #mybossisgonnabepissed
