The NYPD arrested two men suspected of throwing glass bottles and shouting homophobic slurs at two women in Times Square early Monday morning. According to police, Michael Bailey, 23, and Daquan Burns, 24, attacked the women near the corner of 44th Street and Broadway at roughly 5 a.m. yesterday.
Sources told the Daily News Burns and Bailey screamed at the women, calling them "fucking dykes," after they rejected their advances moments earlier. The two suspects were quickly apprehended by police and have since been charged with felony assault as a hate crime. The News reports that both women are 23 years old and suffered cuts on their hands.
A police spokesperson confirmed that Bailey was taken into custody with marijuana and a handgun in his possession.
Last month, the NYPD arrested 30-year-old Daniel Mateo in connection with an anti-gay bias assault in the West Village. According to police, Mateo shouted racist and anti-gay slurs at another man just before shoving him into a window frame on West 4th Street between Jones and Cornelia streets shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 2nd. Mateo has since been charged with assault with intent to recklessly cause physical injury and second-degree harassment.
