Mayor Bloomberg will tout NYC's low 2012 murder rate today, but he also took time this morning to address the rising number of robberies in 2012. In a nutshell, he blamed them on iPhones and iPads.

The mayor was discussing iCrime on his radio show. According to City Room, "As of Monday, the Police Department recorded 3,484 more major crimes in 2012 than for the same period last year. The increase in Apple product thefts: 3,890." And some iPhone owners have been killed for the product—or for breaking a girlfriend's iPhone.

Bloomberg told iProduct owners, "Put it in a pocket in sort of a more body-fitting, tighter clothes, that you can feel if it was — if somebody put their hand in your pocket, not just an outside coat pocket."

Yes—and then yell that some loser is groping you! Also, don't use your iPhone or iPad (or Galaxy) right next to the subway door and be a sucker:

When Bloomberg rides the subway, he typically reads the paper.
