A Maryland woman went into cardiac arrest and died after receiving silicone butt injections in the basement of a Far Rockaway home on Saturday.
Police responded to 10-31 Dickens Street in Far Rockaway soon after 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, where a 34-year-old woman lay unconscious and unresponsive. She was pronounced dead upon arrival at St. John's Hospital.
The victim was one Kelly Mayhew, DNAinfo reports. Mayhew had traveled all the way from Maryland with her mother to receive butt injections, in a "makeshift medical room" in the Dickens Street basement.
After receiving the fatal injections, Mayhew started gurgling and struggling to breath, the News reports. According to the tabloid's sources, the phony surgeon fled the scene and drove away in a gray SUV while the victim's mother performed CPR.
The owner of the building, Joan Doyle, told DNAInfo that she had been letting a former tenant stay in the basement for free, since the woman was struggling to pay her rent. Soon after, she started noticing lots of women going to and from her basement. "Some of [the women] had weird butts," she said. "I knew something was going on but I couldn't put my finger on it." According to Doyle, the basement tenant was at work when Mayhew died.
As of this afternoon, the cause of death has not been determined, and the investigation is ongoing.
In 2012, a fake surgeon was arrested in Staten Island for attempting to give butt-boosting injections to two undercover agents, for $6,000.
