2005_12_mulchfest.jpgIs your real, live Christmas tree practically brittle already? Well, try to hold out until the weekend of January 7 and 8, because that's when the Parks Department is holding Mulchfest in 2006. At Mulchfest, your tree will be turned into mulch for city trees - or you can get mulch and/or chippings for yourself. The Parks Department does, however, require you to remove "all lights, ornaments, and decorations" from your trees, so no tatty tinsel should be left on there.

There are locations in all five boroughs. And it's much better than leaving the tree outside on the sidewalk in March or April. And a fun fact: Hershey's makes Cocoa Mulch!
