Another day, another Leandra's Law arrest: Suffolk County police say that Shawndell Wilder was driving while intoxicated in Huntington Station—with his girlfriend's one-year-old child in the backseat. And apparently Wilder's license has been suspended 18 times in the past. And his girlfriend admitted to police that she knew he was drinking before driving.
According to Newsday, Wilder "was in a 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage on Jericho Turnpike near Cooper Avenue when he was stopped by police at about 4:30 p.m. for driving with tinted windows and a cracked windshield, police said." But then the cops found him to be intoxicated. He was charged with "aggravated driving while intoxicated with a passenger 15 years old or younger, driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and endangering the welfare of a child." HIs girlfriend, Alicia Fabre, was arrested and faces child endangerment charges; the baby was released to the custody of his grandparents.
On Tuesday, a woman drove the wrong way—allegedly drunk—and crashed her car—with her 4-year-old son in it—in Harrison and, last week, a 13-year-old called 911 to report her drunk driving mom.
