A truck driver was arrested last night after allegedly running over another man in Brooklyn. According to police, 56-year-old Darren Danks was behind the wheel of a truck parked near Avenue U and Stuart Street at roughly 10:20 p.m. Monday night, when he let off the brake and began backing up, pinning another man underneath the vehicle.
Police sources told the Daily News the crushed man had been working with Danks to unload Christmas trees from the truck, and that the fatal incident had been an accident.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving a 911 call, and found the unnamed 47-year-old victim lying unconscious in the road with trauma to his head and torso. He was rushed to NYU Lutheran Hospital, but later died.
Danks reportedly remained at the scene following the collision. On Tuesday, he was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.
