An armed man in Staten Island stole an MTA bus and crashed it, police say.
The incident occurred in West Brighton around 5:00 p.m. yesterday. The operator of an X10 bus was conducting an inspection of his vehicle near Castelon and Jewett Avenues when a man allegedly boarded the bus and threatened the driver.
The man, who police identified as 33-year-old Mario Cassanova, drove the bus a few blocks with the driver still on it before ordering him to get off. Cassanova eventually crashed the bus at Castleton Avenue and Broadway. He hit several vehicles at a light pole, but no one was injured.
Cassanova, who is from Bay Ridge, was charged with robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment.
