A 63-year-old man was stabbed on the subway early this morning on the 6 train after he told a group of women to quiet down. According to a police spokesman, the man confronted the eight women at around 6:15 a.m. "about their rowdiness on the train" as it approached the Union Square stop. "He just told them, 'Relax, calm down,' " a police source told the Daily News. "The eight females were acting stupid." After his admonition, one of the women stabbed him in the left shoulder before they all fled the scene. The paper notes that "all eight women were taken into custody," but an NYPD spokesman could not confirm any arrests.

The man was treated at Bellevue and is in stable condition.
