A 25-year-old man says another man slashed him in the cheek in the Meatpacking District early Sunday morning, according to the NYPD. The incident took place at a halal cart in front of 350 West 14th Street, near Hudson Street, around 4:45 a.m.

The victim said that an unknown man standing near him "turned to him and made a statement and cut him in the face causing a three-inch cut to the left cheek," an NYPD spokesman said. The suspect fled the scene and no arrests have been made. Police couldn't confirm what words were exchanged.

About 90 minutes before the slashing, witnesses said they saw the victim arguing with three people nearby: two women and a man. One of the women threw "some type of drink" at the victim's face, according to police. He then allegedly picked up the drink and threw it back.

It was not immediately clear if the two arguments were related.

The New York Post reports that the victim is a sports reporter. He had reportedly been at a club in the Meatpacking District before he was slashed, and was briefly hospitalized.
