A 39-year-old Brownsville man shot his ex-girlfriend before killing her boyfriend and himself in front of their young children yesterday evening, according to police.

The NYPD says that the suspect, identified by the Post as 39-year-old Jerry Patterson, shot his ex-girlfriend's 44-year-old boyfriend, Joe Kennedy, in the head at around 5:09 p.m. yesterday in the vicinity of East 91st Street and Clarkson Avenue in Brownsville. The 33-year-old woman, identified by the Post as Gina McLaren, was in her car while she waited to pick up her and Patterson's two children, ages 11 and 6, from Patterson, with whom the children were visiting at the time. Kennedy was standing outside the car when Patterson shot him.

Patterson then apparently shot McLaren before walking over to his own car, where both of his children were sitting inside. Police say he fatally shot himself in the head. “I just heard the gunshots at first, probably like at least 8 or 9,” witness Michaela Bascomb told CBS 2.

Kennedy was taken to Brookdale Hospital and pronounced dead. McLaren and Patterson were taken to Kings County Hospital, where the latter was pronounced dead; McLaren is listed in stable condition. The children were physically unharmed.
