A man was struck and killed near the intersection of Flatbush Avenue and Hawthorne Street last night and another was taken into custody as the police conduct an investigation into a possible hit-and-run. Police say the man was attempting to cross Flatbush Avenue near Hawthorne Street when he was hit by a blue Ford Econoline van traveling northbound. A witness told the Post that the blue van was speeding alongside another white van. “The guy goes flying right under my car, and then the dollar van driver loses control,” said the witness, who was driving southbound in a sedan. "The guy’s body ended up underneath my bumper.”

Witnesses said the driver then climbed into the white van before it sped off. An NYPD spokeswoman confirmed that no arrests have been made, and declined to give the name of the man in custody. The victim has not been identified, pending family notification.
