A man was hit and killed by a Q train early this morning while he was walking the tracks in between stations, according to police.

Police say that at about 4:40 a.m. this morning, a Q train going north between the Union Square and 23rd Street stations struck a man who was in the tunnel. According to a police spokesperson, the emergency brake underneath the train was tripped in between stations, and when a motorman got out to investigate, he discovered the body of the man that the train hit.

The unidentified man, who is thought to have been in his 20s, suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police couldn't say what the man was doing in the tunnel, but said that no criminality was suspected in the incident at the moment.
