A 42-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition after being hit by a motorist on the Upper East Side.

According to police, the victim was attempting to cross 2nd Avenue near East 89th Street around 12:53 p.m. when he was hit by a Range Rover driver traveling southbound on 2nd Avenue. He was taken to Cornell Hospital in critical condition, and the driver remained on the scene, an NYPD spokesperson said. The crash remains under investigation, and police did not know how fast the driver was going when he struck the man.
