Someone fatally shot a man as he was driving his BMW in Canarsie last night, causing his car to flip before coming to a stop, police said. The 22-year-old victim was driving at East 82nd Street and Flatlands Avenue at about 10 p.m. when, according to witnesses, someone let off eight or nine shots.
A witness told the New York Post that the driver hit several parked cars trying to get away and slammed into a double-parked car, then backed up, dove another two blocks to Farragut Road, and hit another parked car, overturning his BMW.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and found the man with a gunshot wound in his torso, police said. The emergency responders drove the victim to Brookdale Hospital and doctors there pronounced him dead on arrival.
As of last week, there had been five shootings in the neighborhood, compared to four at the same time last year, and two murders, compared to one at the same time last year, according to NYPD data.
