Police are currently investigating an apparent suicide that took place early this morning at the Bronx District Attorney's office. Details of the death are still scarce but it appears that a 45-year-old armed security guard took his life somewhere in the DA's office building just after midnight.

The man, a "special patrol" officer employed by the DA's office whose identity has not been released, was found with a gunshot wound to his chest around 12:30 a.m.. He was later pronounced dead at Lincoln Hospital. Right now that is all that the NYPD will tell us about the situation.

While there is currently nothing to tie this incident to the ongoing NYPD ticket-fixing scandal the DA has been working on, this is the second suicide attempt connected to the office in the past month. In September an NYPD officer tried to kill himself on the third rail after being called to testify.
