An unidentified 28-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach during an altercation in Chelsea earlier this morning. An FDNY spokesperson tells us they received a call at 2 a.m. reporting a man bleeding from the stomach on the sidewalk outside a McDonald's on Eighth Avenue, between 26th and 27th Streets. This morning the NYPD announced that the man was pronounced DOA at Bellevue hospital; the identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification. The suspect fled the scene.
ABC 7 reports that the victim "got into a fight with his killer at an adult video store." If true, that would be The Erotica, across the street from the McDonald's. A clerk at the store this morning denied that anyone was stabbed inside the premises, and refused to answer any questions. The NYPD would not comment on the exact location of the stabbing.
The stabbing comes despite heightened police presence in the area due to a dramatic increase in anti-gay hate crimes. However, there's no indication thus far that this morning's stabbing was a bias attack.
