Police say a 35-year-old man was fatally run over earlier this morning after he walked in the middle lane of the westbound Long Island Expressway. The unidentified man was struck shortly after 3 a.m. in Queens, near where the LIE connects to the Grand Central Parkway. According to investigators, the man was run over by the driver of a green Ford and pronounced dead at the scene. And one preliminary report suggests a bizarre scene preceding the collision.
According to NBC New York, the deceased had been driving a 2014 Mercedes when he jumped out of the moving car in the middle of the Grand Central Parkway. Police sources say the man then proceeded to run across the Grand Central Parkway’s westbound lanes toward the LIE. The Mercedes crashed into a center median.
EMS said the man was unconscious and unresponsive with severe trauma to the body when the found him. The driver who killed him was spared serious injury, and remained at the scene. No charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
