A 22-year-old man was struck by the driver of an SUV Saturday night as he attempted to cross White Plains Road in the Bronx. According to police, collision took place just after 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of White Plains Road and 239th Street.

ABC reports that the victim had been crossing the street in a marked crosswalk, and an NYPD spokesperson confirmed that he was rushed to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and was interviewed by investigators, the Daily News reports. The man's condition had been upgraded to stable as of Sunday morning, and a police investigation is ongoing.
