A man who was approached by police because he was had his feet up on a subway seat was arrested after cops looked up his name and found out he was wanted in connection with a murder.
Gregory White, 43, was charged with second degree murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon in the death of 58-year-old Victoria Hammond. The mother-of-four was discovered stabbed to death in her Coney Island apartment last January.
White was considered a suspect in the case, but had eluded police for the last ten months...until they ran into him on an A train this week. Transit cops noticed him on the train around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning as it pulled into Columbus Circle. They were about to give him a summons for taking up more than one seat when they looked up his name and discovered an outstanding arrest warrant and that he was wanted for questioning in Hammond's murder.
Police sources told the News that he confessed to the murder.
