A 21-year-old Bronx man was arrested for allegedly following a woman into her south Williamsburg apartment building and trying to rape her. After the NYPD distributed security camera images of the suspect, he was confronted and chased down by two people in Williamsburg who recognized him.
The incident took place on Labor Day, September 3rd; police say a 42-year-old woman was attacked around 7:45 a.m. after entering her building near Berry and South 10th Street. She managed to fight off the suspect, who then fled.
According to the Post, an "eagle-eyed duo" approached suspect Adonis Cabrera and "asked him if he was the person" being sought. "Cabrera, 21, allegedly took off, but the two men gave chase, following him to a construction site on Kent Avenue. Hardhats there joined in on the attempt to hold the man until police arrived," the Post reports.
Though Cabrera managed to run away before officers arrived, he left his backpack... which had his ID. Police arrested him on Wednesday in Harlem. He was charged with attempted rape, forcible touching, and sexual abuse.
