A 39-year-old Montclair, NJ resident has been arrested
for impersonating a police officer and raping two women in a cemetery near the town dubbed "Park Slope West" by real estate agents. Donell Anderson, who claims to be an "ordained minister, a business owner and a private eye," lured two women to a cemetery over three months, officials say.
Anderson's first victim was a 22-year-old autistic woman, whom he drove to Clinton Cemetery and raped after she got off a school bus in Newark on March 19th. It is unclear how he persuaded her to get in his van. His last assault happened on Friday evening, when he allegedly stopped a woman on Hopkins Place in Irvington, flashed a fake police badge and said there was a warrant out for her arrest. He ordered the 38-year-old woman into his green Nissan Quest minivan and drove her to the same cemetery. He attempted to sexually assault her, but she managed to escape and call the real police.
Police found Anderson carrying a loaded handgun and two fake badges, and he has been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, impersonating a police officer, and weapons offenses. Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurino called the assaults "crimes of opportunity," though both appear to be premeditated. Anderson is married with children.
