After a couple days of subway-style fire drilling, complete with false alarms, the city is scaling back subway security. Mayor Bloomberg said, "Since the period of the threat now seems to be passing, I think over the immediate future we'll slowly be winding down the enhanced security." What? No more police officers standing outside of subway stations - not checking bags, but just looking like they might? No more MTA trucks parked on the street? No more people being on the lookout for baby strollers filled with plastique? And Gothamist was just starting to get in the groove of looking for people leaving soda cans full of piss on the platform.
