The housing lottery, known around here as the housing jack squattery because that's all I ever win from it, is back with an enticing new offer for those of you looking for a somewhat affordable place to live: 45 upcoming apartments located at 42 West 33rd Street in Chelsea. Win one of these apartments and not only will you have a rent-stabilized spot in Midtown, but your across the street neighbor will be none other than New York City's big time building, the Empire State Building.
The apartments up for grabs include 14 $867 studios, 26 $931 1-bedrooms and 5 $1,123 2-bedrooms, all of which are currently under construction. Unlike some other housing lotteries, this one is open exclusively to households making 60 percent of the city's Area Median Income, so depending on household size, you'll need to make between $31,612 and $57,240 per year.
As with other luxury building housing lotteries, the building comes with plenty of amenities like a roof deck, a pool, a laundry room, a dog wash and a golf simulator, because you know rich people and golf. AND just like with other luxury housing lotteries, none of those amenities are actually open to you as a lottery winner unless you pay additional fees. Hey, they're not making you enter through a poor door, what else do you want?
The application deadline is December 4th. Details here.
