A Long Island man with a history of animal abuse has been arrested for having sex with multiple horses, local authorities said Thursday.

According to Suffolk County Police, Steve Errante, 30, had been ordered to register with the Animal Abuse Offenders Registry after beating his family's dog with a baseball bat in 2013. But he failed to register with the group, and so on Wednesday police decided to check in on him in his Dix Hills home.

There, they "discovered Errante had sexual contact with horses on two separate occasions." While it's unclear how such a discovery was made, police did say that the incidents took place on August 25th and September 4th at a stable in Dix Hills.

Errante has been charged with two counts of sexual misconduct with an animal and failure to register for the animal abuse offenders registry. He was due in court on Thursday.
