An internationally-renowned long distance runner was bashed over the head with a brick on Saturday as he left a concert at Upper West Side's Terminal 5 club, and police have yet to catch the suspect who did it.
According to police, 37-year-old Andrew Billington and his girlfriend had just seen a show by the Welsh band Stereophonics. The pair was walking along West 58th Street near 11th Avenue around 11 p.m. when the suspect approached Billington from behind and smashed a cloth-covered brick over his head. Once down, ABC reports that he was struck in the face again, while his girlfriend screamed in terror.
The suspect reportedly proceeded to riffle through Billington's pockets, but ultimately didn't take anything. Billington, who is originally from Britain and is currently training for the New York Marathon, was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
The suspect is described as either Hispanic or a light skinned black man between 20 and 25-years-old. He stands around 6-feet tall and weighs between 160 and 170 pounds. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, a blue waist-length jacket, black jeans, black and white sneakers and a black baseball hat. He also has a mustache.
