The family of the Brooklyn man suspected of shooting a livery cab passenger has been defending him in the press. Michael Mangan's father told the Daily News, "This guy was drunk. How could he do something like that?"

Mangan, 19, is accused of trying to rob a livery cab in the Flatlands section of Brooklyn. During a struggle with the driver, the gun went off, hitting passenger Nikita Grebelsky in the head. Grebelsky, 23, is now brain dead and on life support. Mangan was also initially suspected in a house party shooting that left four injured, but now it's believed that he wasn't involved in that incident.

Mangan was arrested near Club 9ja Villa, where he had been allegedly waving his gun at bouncers. Mangan's family insisted that he had been at a wedding over an hour before the shooting; his aunt told the News, "He was dancing. Everybody was so happy... He’s a beautiful person. He’s not a maniac. He’s not a psycho.”

However, Grebelsky's relative told the Post that the excuses from Mangan's family were not impressing them: "The mother of that thug . . . would tell you interesting things about his poor childhood." And the livery driver said, "He’s a demon, he’s a psychopath, you can’t blame it on drugs."
