More horrible news today: An LIRR worker died after coming in contact with the third rail at the Queens Village LIRR station. The worker, who has not yet been identified, was doing track work when the accident happened around 11 a.m. It's unclear how he came into contact with the third rail, but DNAInfo reports that a second employee, who had tried to help his coworker, was also taken to the hospital "as a precaution."
According to the MTA, the worker died as he was being taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Service was on the LIRR was suspended between Jamaica and Mineola for about an hour after the incident.
