Yesterday the city acknowledged that last week's heat wave was to blame in the death of a 94-year-old Brooklyn woman and today the death toll rises. The City's Medical Examiner has now confirmed that last week's heat wave also claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl.

An autopsy revealed that the Brooklyn girl died on Saturday, when the temperature reached 100°, of hyperthermia. They point out, however, that she also had an underlying medical condition.

With the mercury expected to go back into the 90s later this week it is important that we all remember to stay well hydrated in extreme weather and to check in on your elderly and very young family and neighbors.
