In the first of 301 eight games against the Devils, the Rangers recovered from a slow start and took care of the the Devils, 3-2, in Newark. John Tortorella called a timeout 1:24 into the game -- the Devils struck first on a Rob Niedermayer goal 1:10 in -- and the Rangers apparently got the message.

Michael Del Zotto, a rookie defenseman, scored on the power play, as did Ales Kotalik. Another rookie defenseman, Matt Gilroy, scored at even strength. The Rangers also trailed, 2-1, at one point in this game. The power-play goals were a welcome development for a team that had the second-worst one in the league last season.
