With a rare midweek series in Boston looming, the Yankees took care of the Orioles, 3-2, to wrap up a long four-day stay in Charm City. Freddy Garcia pitched well to complicate the Yankees' rotation-thinning problem by throwing six innings of two-hit ball in his return from the disabled list. (He had cut his finger in a kitchen accident.) Nick Swisher hit his 21st homer -- and sixth in seven games. David Robertson allowed his first home run this season -- and 60 2/3 innings overall -- to surrender his first run on the road this season. (Yes, he's been good.) Derek Jeter (bruised knee) and Alex Rodriguez (sprained thumb) didn't play. Rodriguez is less likely for the upcoming series in Boston. The Yankees trail the Red Sox by 1 1/2 games.
Dillon Gee and R.A. Dickey helped the Mets limit the Marlins to two runs in 18 innings in a doubleheader sweep. They won by scores of 5-1 and 2-1. Jose Reyes made his return in the nightcap and went 1-for-4. He's still in the lead for the National League batting crown, and if he stays on the field he'll have a great shot at it. David Wright with 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the nightcap. Lucas Duda went 3-for-4 in the opener.
