- Angels 7 Yankees 6: The Yankees overcame a miserable start by A.J. Burnett only to have their bullpen give the game away. New York put the first two runners on in the first, but failed to score while the Angels jumped all over A.J. Burnett for four runs in their half of the inning. And that’s exactly where things remained until the seventh. With two outs, Mark Teixeira delivered a bases-loaded double to clear the bases and put the Yankees on the board. A-Rod was intentionally walked and Hideki Matsui followed with a single to tie the game. Robinson Cano followed with a triple to put New York up 6-4.
But, Joe Girardi decided to stick with Burnett in the bottom of the inning and he put the first two runners on before being lifted for Damaso Marte. Marte got an out on a sacrifice bunt and then he gave up a run on a ground out. Girardi went to Phil Hughes with the Yankees clinging to a one-run lead and Hughes imploded. Hughes allowed a walk and two singles to give the Angels a 7-6 lead.
New York loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth, but Nick Swisher popped out and now the series will return to New York with Game 6 on Saturday.
- Devils 4 Rangers 2: New Jersey dominated a sloppy Rangers club in the first period and built a 2-0 lead, but New York responded and tied things up in the second period. Things stayed that way until Dainius Zubrus scored on a strangely bouncing puck to put the Devils up for good. Zach Parise added an empty-netter, his second of the night, to complete the scoring.
- Montreal 5 Islanders 1: Montreal jumped out to a 3-0 lead and added two more after Josh Bailey’s shorthanded goal to blow the Islanders out. Martin Biron faced 43 shots in the loss.
