  • Yankees 4, Orioles 0: For a team that hadn't held a lead since Saturday, Alex Rodriguez's first at-bat presented a great opportunity. He came up with two runners on and one out in the first inning, and he didn't disappoint. Rodriguez, playing in his first game following hip surgery and steroid accusations, unloaded on the pitch, giving the Yankees a 3-0 lead. CC Sabathia allowed hits to the first two Orioles he faced but then retired 23 of the next 24 and finished a four-hit shutout. He struck out nine and walked only one. The two most expensive Yankees earned their salary for a night. Rodriguez did have two strikeouts and didn't reach base in his other three plate appearances. The Yankees snapped a five-game losing streak with this win.
  • Mets 7, Pirates 2: Jon Niese didn't earn the win, but he pitched well enough to. He allowed two runs in six innings, striking out five and walking none. Carlos Delgado had a two-run single in the first and then a three-run homer in the eighth to provide the bulk of the Mets' offense. New York has now won five straight games.
