For the second straight day, the Yankees fell in extra innings to Baltimore. This time, they lost, 5-4, when Scott Proctor allowed the winning run in the 10th inning. The Yankees led 3-0 and 4-1 but Ivan Nova wasn't great -- he isn't the second coming after all -- and Rafael Soriano gave up the lead in the eighth. The Yankees probably would have lost in nine innings if not for some egregiously bad baserunning by the Orioles. They had three guys thrown out on the bases in the late innings.

The Mets' doubleheader against the Braves didn't go much better. They lost 6-5 and 5-1. Chris Schwinden lost his Major League debut, and Dillon Gee's second-half slide continued.

The US Open is close to back on schedule, but the USTA has switched the schedule to allow the men's field to rest. For the fourth straight year, the final will take place on a Monday. Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic advanced to one semifinal with wins Thursday. Andy Roddick will play Rafael Nadal in one quarterfinal on Friday, and John Isner will face Andy Murray. Will any American record the upset? The women's semis are set for Saturday and the final will be Sunday afternoon.
