Yankees 3, Red Sox 2: Coming into last night's game, New York and Boston were tied for first place in the AL East, the Yankees won seven straight games and the Red Sox were 8-1 against their rivals to the south including a sweep in The Bronx in June. Something had to break. For the Yankees, things weren't looking so hot until the 6th inning — it took six innings until their offense could break through against Jon Lester. Before the Yankees scored in the 6th, Boston was up 2-0, scoring runs off Bartolo Colon, who was pulled in the 5th inning. Mariano Rivera struck out two in the 9th inning for his 29th save, giving the Yankees their 8th straight win, their second win against the Red Sox this season, and most importantly sole possession of 1st place in the AL East.

los Bravos 4, los Mets 1: On Fiesta Latina Night at Citi Field, los Mets were unable to overcome los Bravos. While the Mets were able to jump out to a quick 1-0 lead against Tim Hudson, the Braves were eventually able to tag R.A. Dickey for two runs, enough offense to beat the Mets on Friday. After a five game win streak, the Mets are now headed in the opposite direction, losing five straight. Perhaps New York can stop its skid tomorrow night.
