The Yankees' long national nightmare is over. With a 6-1 win over the Blue Jays, the Yankees clinched their 15th playoff berth in the last 16 seasons. The Yankees have stumbled in September, but they will be one of the final eight teams standing. CC Sabathia, moved up in the rotation to try to end the suspense, pitched 8 1/3 innings of one-run ball.. All of the Yankees' six runs were knocked in without the benefit of a hit. Mariano Rivera ended the game even though it was not a save situation. The Yankees remain a half-game behind the Rays in the American League East. The winner of the division will get the Rangers, and the loser will get the Twins.
The Mets took down the Brewers, 4-3, on a walk-off two-run double by Ruben Tejada Mike Pelfrey took a no-decision after he worked into the eighth and allowed three runs. David Wright hit two home runs to bring his season total to 27. Remember when everyone was worried about the season he was having? The Mets have bigger problems, like Carlos Beltran's aggravated knee injury. They also have a twinight doubleheader on Wednesday before closing the series on Thursday.
