Toronto 8 New York 4: The Yankees trotted out a pretty regular lineup Wednesday night in an attempt to gain ground on Tampa. Unfortunately, they also gave the ball to Javier Vazquez and that proved to be the difference. Vazquez, making what should be his last ever start as a Yankee, allowed three home runs and the Yankees never really had a chance in the game. Tampa lost, so they remain a 1/2 -game out of first.

Milwaukee Sweeps: What can be worse than a meaningless doubleheader in September? How about losing both ends of that doubleheader in front of a fairly empty stadium. In the first game, the Mets lost 8-7. Jon Niese was terrible, but the Mets rallied and took a 7-6 lead thanks to home runs by David Wright and Lucas Duda and three hits from Jose Reyes. Unfortunately, the bullpen couldn’t hold it and the Brewers scored twice in the eighth to pull out the win. In the nightcap, RA Dickey was brilliant again, but the offense disappeared and the Mets lost 3-1. The best must win their final four games to finish .500.
