For the Rangers, a trip to Europe was worth two points. They wrapped up their stay in Stockholm, Sweden, with a 2-1 shootout loss to the Ducks on Saturday. Henrik Lundqvist stoned Bobby Ryan in the second period but got burned in the shootout. Brad Richards scored with 2:15 remaining in the third period to ensure the Rangers got a point. Playing on home ice, Lundqvist made 27 saves.

The Islanders did not have a pretty start to their home campaign. Al Montoya gave up two goals in less than three minutes in the first period to account for a 2-0 loss to the Panthers on Saturday.

Things weren't much better for Martin Brodeur, who allowed three goals in the the Devils' 3-0 loss to the Flyers. As coach Peter DeBoer said, "It looked to me like we were at practice speed and they were at NHL game speed."
