  • Yankees 14 Angels 9: It was weird, it was wild, but in the end the Yankees prevailed and a new hero had emerged. Darrell Rasner was lousy, putting the Yankees in a 5-0 hole. (Ian Kennedy pitched well today at Scranton so Rasner may not be in the rotation much longer) But, the Yankees clawed their way back into the game and took the lead 8-5 thanks to some big hits from Xavier Nady. With Mariano Rivera suffering from back spasms, Joe Girardi instructed the 8th to Edwar Ramirez instead of Damaso Marte and Ramirez gave up a grand slam and the lead as the Angels went up on top 9-8. The Yankees then broke things open in the bottom of the inning with a six-spot, helped by some atrocious defense by the Angels.
The win gives the Yankees a split of the series with LA and sends them off on a eleven-game road trip on a high note.
  • Houston 4 Mets 0: Don’t blame the bullpen for this one, Oliver Perez had a bad start and Randy Wolf got big outs when it mattered as the Astros swept the Mets for the first time since 1993. Off the field the news was also bad as John Maine is headed to the DL and Billy Wagner is having a MRI.
