• Yankees 11 Toronto 3: After not being able to score at all the past few games, the Yankees’ offense erupted in the 3rd inning, putting 11 runs on the board. Trailing 2-0, the Yankees tied the game on a Mark Teixeira double and went ahead on a ground out by A-Rod. Brett Gardner delivered a grand slam to make it 8-2 and then A-Rod hit what should have been the third out of the inning to left. But, the Toronto outfielder lost it in the sun and A-Rod wound up with a generously scored double and 3 RBI’s. Andy Pettitte went six innings to earn his 10th win of the season.
  • Washington 6 Mets 5: The Nationals will have to wait another week before retiring Stephen Strasburg’s number. R.A. Dickey actually out-pitched the phenom, but the game turned into a battle of the bullpens that the Mets lost. New York scored three runs in the top of the 8th to take a 5-2 lead, but the Nationals stormed back. They scored a single run in the 8th and Jerry Manuel went to K-Rod to pitch the ninth, but the closer didn’t have it. He walked the leadoff hitter and loaded the bases with one out. Adam Dunn then lifted a fly ball to center that was inches from going out of the park. Two runs scored, tying the game and video replay showed the original call on the field was correct. It prolonged the game for only one more batter as Ivan Rodriguez laced a two-run single to right to send the Nationals’ fans home happy and deal the Mets another walkoff loss.
