Rangers 2 Toronto 0: Henrik Lundqvist made 36 saves to pass Mike Richter on the Rangers’ shutout list. Brian Boyle scored his fourth goal of the season and Ryan Callahan added a goal on a penalty shot. The win snapped the Rangers losing streak.
Red Bulls 1, Earthquakes 0: In the opening round of the playoffs, the Red Bulls took the first game in the series against San Jose. Joel Lindpere scored the lone goal in the game, giving New York a big advantage as they return home where they were 10-3-2 this year. Leg 2 of the series is Thursday.
Portland 100 Knicks 95: The Knicks fell apart in the final minutes as a 92-83 lead disappeared. Marcus Camby stripped Amar’e Stoudemire with six seconds left to preserve the Portland win.
Philadelphia 6 Islanders 1: The Flyers scored less than three minutes into the game and they never let up. Rick DiPietro allowed six goals on 29 shots, but he also mixed it up in a wild third period. The Islanders only goal came short-handed thanks to Frans Nielsen.
Kings 3, Devils 1: Worse than losing the game, the Devils lost Zach Parise to a leg injury in the loss to Los Angeles. Parise is returning east while the Devils (now the worst team in the NHL) continue their West-Coast swing.
