They took their time, but the Yankees finally got a timely hit. After leaving runners on base all night, the Yankees finally took the lead on a two-run single by Alex Rodriguez in the ninth inning. That put them ahead to stay in their 3-1 win in Seattle on Thursday. It was their season-high sixth straight win. Nick Swisher, who along with Derek Jeter scored on the Rodriguez single, had four hits. Before the game, he found out he had won the fan voting for the final American League All-Star spot. Andy Pettitte pitched eight innings of one-run ball, striking nine and walking four. The run Pettitte did allow came on another throwing error by the lefty. Phil Hughes faces Cliff Lee on Friday night.
