- Yankees 3, Red Sox 0: CC Sabathia became the first 19-game winner in the Majors (okay, the American League—the Cards' Adam Wainwright also won his 19th tonight) with his dominating performance against the Red Sox last night. The Yankees' ace threw seven innings, including retiring the first 11 batters he faced and gave up only one-hit to the Sox while striking out 8. The Bombers didn't get on the scoreboard against Daisuke Matsuzaka until Robinson Cano hit his 24th home run of the season to left. Johnny Damon added two insurance runs in the 8th with a soft hit ball to right off Billy Wagner.
Phil Hughes pitched a perfect 8th and Mariano Rivera finished the night with his 43rd save of the season. With the victory, the Yankees are now 8-9 against the Red Sox for the season despite starting 0-8 and have a chance to even the season series today. The Yankees are also one win (or Red Sox loss) away from clinching the AL East.
- Marlins 9, Mets 6: After coming from behind to beat the Marlins Friday night, the Mets were unable to repeat the performance Saturday. The wheels (for this game) fell off in the 5th inning when John Maine and Elmer Dessens combined to allow seven runs.
- Chivas 1, Red Bulls 1: Chivas USA was minutes away from a win, but Juan Pablo Angel scored off a Sinisa Ubiparipovic cross in the 84th minute to tie the game. Chivas also missed a PK in injury time that would have given them valuable points in the playoff race.
